The Lowdown

Welcome to the “King of the Mountains” Challenge page. Here you will find information for participants, the considerations and rules, as well as the results.

The Challenge consists of three uphill climbs on all three Saturdays during Velopalooza, Vancouver BC's best bicycle fun spoketacular celebration.

This is first and foremost a fun event. Although all participants are encouraged to give it their best go, it is certainly not worth risking accident or injury.

By participating in this event, all participants are assumed to be physically able to participate in this event. If unsure, consult your doctor, naturopath or local hoodooman.

All participants assume all responsibility for their own safety and conduct. A spirit of sportsmanship shall prevail.

Although the routes have been selected for low traffic density, routes are along streets that have active motor vehicle traffic. All participants are expected to obey all traffic laws.

Routes may cross intersections. All participants are expected to obey all traffic laws.

Routes may have parked cars, beware the door zone.

All participants agree to stay in their lane. No cutting corners.

All participants are required to wear a helmet.

This is a timed event. All ages are welcome to participate. **UPDATE**:There will be seperate categories for women and men.

There will be no “do-overs” in event of mechanical or other difficulties on course.

Registration is not necessary. Starting times are on a first come, first ride basis. It is a staggered, time-trial style start. Sign up at the start line, then let 'er rip.

This is a timed event. Timing in full seconds, no fractions of a second recorded. All ties to be resolved by lottery.

We love you all, but participants using pedal powered, two-wheeled, derailleured bicycles only are eligible to win. No electric, gas, or hamster assist. Others are welcome to participate but will not qualify to win. Sorry. All qualification decisions to be made by the starter (me). The starter’s decision is final.

Riders are encouraged to participate in all three events on each Saturday during Velopalooza.

Riders participating in all three events will be eligible to win the overall title : “King of the Mountains” and be awarded a prize.

Each Saturday’s event will have a declared winner : ”King of the Hill” and be awarded a prize.

Riders participating in two events will be still be eligible for the overall title. Participants missing a single event will be assigned a time based upon an averaging formula (tbd). All timing decisions are final.

All prizes to be awarded at the Velopalooza Wrap-Up Party, Sunday 19 June, 2011 at the Waldorf Hotel Pub.
